Meet Anita, one of the reasons we exist!

At age 12, Anita moved in with her boyfriend. She left school because he would not let her keep studying. The following year she became pregnant with her first child. Constrained to just looking after the home, Anita did not know that there were other ways of life until she found out about the XtraOrdinary Women programme. Although her partner told her it was a waste of time, he let her attend because of the scholarship stipend. She began to acquire new knowledge, build on her self-esteem and develop her skill sets.

However, abuses at home kept growing, and her children began to become victims of the same violence. She was controlled and felt trapped, unable to leave without financial security. Upon graduating our course, we placed her in her first ever job. She felt empowered and started making decisions for herself. She did not have to depend on her abusive partner for her and her children’s economic stability. Anita decided to move away from the violence in her life and not look back.  Today, Anita is a wonderful barista, in training to be an administrative assistant. Her children go to school, and on the weekends, so does she. From having no hope or goals, she now dreams of owning an architecture firm.

Anita has become the most #XtraOrdinary version of herself.🚺✊
